What do these therapists do?
Therapists take on a lot of roles for the families and children they work with.
In addition to working directly with your child, your behavior therapist is often an advocate in coordinating the best care and the right care for your child. They are a problem solver, coming up with unique solutions for individual clients and crafting therapy plans that work specifically for both the person and the environment in which they live.
At ABA Abilities, we work with children 18 months to 6 years old. Starting early is important. Kindergarten, for example, can be a daunting challenge for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Adapting to a structured environment with unfamiliar rules and expectations can be an emotional experience.
ABA Therapy becomes a critical component in helping these young children approach their first educational environment with the proper social skills, attention and learning skills, and appropriate behaviors.
Of course, the challenges don’t end in kindergarten, but continue to grow in importance and complexity as children grow. Keeping to a consistent schedule, confidently approaching new assignments, and dealing with the varied behavior of new and unpredictable individuals are lifetime skills that can be imparted and reinforced by ABA Therapy.
